Walkden Library Site To Become Flats?

Your local Conservatives Councillors are appalled at Labour Council plans to sell off the current library site to developers when the new library opens in September - without any consultation with residents.

Your Councillors are delighted with the facilities available in the new “Gateway Centre” but would prefer that the current site should be retained for community use, not sold off to property companies to build more unwanted empty apartments.

Cllr Iain Lindley said:

“I am disgusted that the plans to sell off the site have been made without any consultation with local residents in the area. The last thing that Walkden town centre needs is more empty apartments. As with the sale of the Market Hall and Pembroke Halls, the Labour Council will be all too happy to sell off our community facilities and then spend the money elsewhere in the City.”
