Don’t forget that the deadline for responses to the draft Core Strategy consultation - including the daft Labour proposals to build on the greenfield land at Burgess Farm - is next Friday, January 15th.
Local residents in Walkden have continued to express their anger at Labour Council proposals to bulldoze the green field land at Burgess Farm for housing as part of their draft “Core Strategy”.
Local residents have until Thursday January 15th to submit their concerns as part of the consultation process. Your local Conservative Councillors will be submitting their own objections, and are urging as many local residents as possible to do the same.
Cllr Iain Lindley, who is also your Prospective Conservative MP, said:
“I’m really grateful for all the local residents who have contacted us, and also those who have spoken to us on the doorstep or attended the Community Committee meeting at James Brindley Primary School. Residents have made it clear on a number of occasions over the years that they do not wish to see the Burgess Farm site developed, and yet the Labour Council still do not listen.
This proposal can be stopped, but it is important that as many local residents as possible submit their own objections so that the Council can see the strength of feeling amongst the local community. A big thank you to all those local residents working really hard on this”
We are delighted with the decision of the Schools Adjudicator to keep St George’s open. We have always as local Councillors argued that it is a successful and excellent school at the heart of the local community, and there is no reasonable justification for closure.
This is a great victory for all the parents, pupils (past and present), staff and local community members who have worked so tirelessly to keep their school open. We are thrilled that their efforts have been rewarded.
Questions must now be asked about the judgement of our Labour Councillors. They have been repeatedly told that this was the wrong decision, but instead of being big enough to hold their hands up, say sorry and change their minds, they have pressed ahead regardless. They have caused three years of unnecessary heartache and hassle for the St George’s school community only to end up back where they started.
We could not wish to meet a more committed and community-focused group of people than the school community at St George’s, and we are immensely proud as local Councillors that they are part of our community in Walkden and in Little Hulton.
We want to see all our local schools thrive and be successful, and it is incredibly disappointing that the Labour Council continue to seek to play one school off against another. All our local schools have our full support.
Rydal Crescent Shops
Your Conservative Councillors share the concern of local residents about the neglected state of some of the shops on Rydal Crescent. Cllr Nicky Turner has raised this at the Council meeting and will continue to press for improvements from City West Housing who own the shops.
Investment For Walkden Road
Following requests from local residents, funding has been secured for new bollards on Walkden Road near the college to protect the grass verges and prevent inconsiderate parking which has such a negative effect on residents.
Hurstfield Road Flats
Your local Councillors are extremely disappointed that the Planning Inspector has overturned the decision of the local Planning Panel to refuse the development of a large block of flats on Hurstfield Road.
Councillors backed residents in their fight to prevent the overdevelopment and residents are rightly furious that that the outside Planning Inspector has ruled in favour of development.
Mesne Lea Primary School Nursery
Your Conservative Councillors support the campaign by parents at Mesne Lea Primary School for a nursery class. Mesne Lea is the only primary school in Salford with no nursery provision and Cllr Les Turner recently handed in at the Council meeting a large petition collected by local parents.
Local Conservatives have re-selected Councillor Les Turner as their candidate for Walkden South ward when the next local elections are held in May next year.
Cllr Turner said, “It is a great honour to represent local people in Walkden South, and I am delighted that local Conservatives have asked me to stand again as the candidate next year. When I first stood for Council I felt that local residents in Walkden were not being listened to by the Labour Council and I hope that I have been able to stand up for the concerns of local residents and help to make sure that their voice is heard”.
Local Conservative Councillors Les Turner and Iain Lindley were out in Crompton Street and Marsh Street this morning, along with colleagues, to ask local residents about the Council’s proposed traffic calming scheme.
Many thanks to all the local residents who volunteering their views and concerns, particularly about the rat-running down Crompton Street, Marsh Street and Grundy Street.
Local residents should make sure they respond to the consultation letter sent to them by the Council. Please don’t hesitate to contact your three local Conservative ward Councillors if you missed the local team this morning and would like to pass on your views.
The proposals to rebuild Walkden High School on the playing field site will be discussed at the Council’s Planning Panel on Thursday 3rd September. All local residents are welcome to attend the meeting - click here to find the agenda.
Today, Thursday 4th June, local residents in Walkden and across the country will go to the polls for the European elections.
Local people have a real chance in these elections to show that they want change. We have a Labour Council, a Labour Government, and Labour MEPs who have all let Walkden down.
By voting Conservative today you can:
- Send a clear message to Gordon Brown that he needs to change his mind and give us the referendum on the EU Constitution that he promised and then failed to deliver.
- Vote for change - if you’re sick of Gordon Brown’s hopeless Government and Labour’s debt crisis, this is your chance to show it.
- Support the Conservative vision for change - our plans to improve the NHS, for better school discipline, and to free our police from bureaucracy so they can get out and fight crime.
- Tell Gordon Brown we want a General Election - now!
We have a strong team of Conservative MEPs and candidates who have shown a strong interest in standing up for the interests of local people. Indeed only a week or two ago Cllr Alex Williams joined our team in Walkden to knock on doors and listen to the concerns of local residents. Unlike Labour and the Liberal Democrats who vote against the British interest, and unlike UKIP whose Brussels grouping has descended into a disorganised rabble, our Conservative team will always stand up for the North West and for Salford.
It’s time for change - vote Conservative today!
The Spring edition of Conservative Local Action News, the Conservative newsletter for Walkden South residents, is being delivered at the moment by local volunteers.
If you are a local resident and think you may have been missed out, please contact Councillor Iain Lindley by e-mailing iain@walkdenconservatives.co.uk and we will make sure that one gets through your door!
Walkden South Conservative Local Action News is delivered and paid-for by local Conservative volunteers, not by the taxpayer or the trade unions. If you want to help deliver a few leaflets in your street, please get in touch with Iain for a chat!
Local Conservative Councillors Les Turner, Nicky Turner and Iain Lindley have asked local police and the Council to take a tougher line on littering.
Both Council officers and Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs) can issue Fixed Penalty Notices for littering, but very few of these notices have been issued.
Your Conservative Councillors report littering hot-spots, such as the linear walkways and High Street, to the Council, and will continue to press Environmental Services to give clearing-up Walkden the high priority that it deserves and that residents expect.
